Description

Hand Of presents... The Unprecedented Case, in collaboration with the National Trust and the Parliamentary Archives.

The Unprecedented Case is a new commission for composer Joe Snape (New York), contemporary ensemble Almost Credible Music (Manchester), puppetry artist Rachel Warr (London), and an assembly of primary school children from across Hackney.

Through text, music, Foley and puppetry, the children will share stories from Hackney's history, exploring their shared heritage through the windows of Sutton House. Some will be funny, some will be moving, some will be completely unprecedented.

They will travel from Tudor Hackney - when Hackney was just a village near London, and London Fields really was fields - through the centuries to The Big Stink, all the way to the 1980s, and back. There will be Tudors and punks and graffiti and pheasants and poo, but more than anything else there will be people.

Between us, we’ll discover that Sutton House, like London itself, has changed with each passing generation, as different people have left their mark.
