Urban explorers enter an empty industrial space and beneath canvas tarps discover the skeletal remains of a machine that changed the world. Captivated, they open a furnace and shovel coal on the fires of the past. An elegant model of efficient motion, it is monstrously utilitarian and gracefully refined. In the ghostly light of the hungry engine images of epic journeys appear. Engineers and drivers, station guards and porters hurry back to work at the sound of a whistle blast; and the passengers, the passengers begin to dance…
From revolutionary Russia to Buster Keaton’s Old West and from the Europe of Holmes and Poirot to the futuristic Asia of a James Bond movie, this train will take you on journey you’ll never forget.
This work-in-progress showing will be accompanied by two ‘Micro-Choreographies’ performed by local participants.
