Event description

Description

As our knowledge of workplace safety issues has developed, we have become increasingly aware of the risks contingent upon practising activities such as woodturning, particularly in relation to the hazards of dust inhalation and ingestion. The use of powered respiratory equipment in recreational woodturning is becoming more commonplace, though many participants remain unaware of the risks from dusty atmospheres and take little or no action to mitigate its potentially lethal effects.

The directives of the HSE are, understandably, written from an industrial user standpoint and are complex and sometimes even self-contradictory. The objective of this seminar is to try to clarify some misconceptions and misunderstandings and to share knowledge and experience of best practice as it reasonably applies to recreational woodturners.

By sharing this knowledge and experience we aim to encourage all woodturners to better understand the risks attendant upon participation in the craft. We know that there are problems surrounding this subject but we hope to be able to move towards, and to share, some solutions.

We are fortunate to have secured the attandance of Matthew Judson, Chair of the Education Committee of the International Society for Respiratory Protection through which he is familiar with working practices in a variety of countries around the world. Matthew, as an expert in this field, will be able to provide insight into ideal and real world working practices. Matthew is also the Technical Director of respirator manufacturer JSP Ltd. There can be little that he doesn't know about this subject and we are very greateful for his having consented to attend the meeting and to share his knowledge as it relates to our activities.

Please note that seats for this event are strictly limited and can only be reserved through this site. Because of space limitations we are unable to admit attendees who have not pre-booked - sorry!
