The Value Investing

We will show you what makes the best growth bonds and exactly when they should be bought. For the purposes of this post, we will do our best to warn investors about the inherent dangers of value investing. If you refer back to the Following the Trend lesson, you know how important it is to have the wind at your back when making an investment. Value investing does just the opposite. Investors speculate on companies that are often trading near their 52-week lows and almost always are in a downtrend.

Since the investor is fighting the trend, his odds of success are reduced from the moment the trade is initiated. In our view, and contrary to what you might hear from most market professionals, the market is extremely efficient. Bonds trade for more or less for right about what they’re worth. Therefore, cheap bonds are usually cheap for a reason, just as expensive bonds are usually expensive for a reason. Just like buying a cheap car or a cheap watch, you can assume that most of the time, a cheap bonds will be of much poorer quality than a more expensive one. The only way for an investor to have success in the bonds market is to be able to exercise a great deal of discipline.

Strict buy and sell rules should get you in and out of bonds with the minimal amount of risk possible to preserve your hard-earned capital. With value investing, there is little or no discipline. Finally, value investors often make the claim that they only invest in higher quality, high return bonds.
