Event description

Description

By 2022, one third of the UK’s working age population is projected to be aged 50 or over, driven by changes in demographics and the state pension age. This in conjunction with falling birth rates entails a steadily shrinking labour market.

With almost one million older workers currently economically inactive but still eager and able to work, it is increasingly important for employers to broaden their recruitment policy to include this growing sector and reap the benefits of having a more experienced workforce.

With this in mind, Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership and the Department for Work and Pensions invite you to attend a half day conference on 22 November at BioPark, Welwyn Garden City which aims to:

  • Provide a snapshot of the current labour market and how it is predicted to change
  • Raise awareness on the importance of retaining, retraining and recruiting older workers
  • Hear from employers who have successfully implemented an over 50s strategy
  • Gather feedback on the barriers to employing older workers and possible solutions
