Join our conversation with Lynda Clark, Giulia Carla Rossi and Stella Wisdom about the British Library’s research in collecting, curating and preserving emerging formats. Including eBook mobile apps, and web-based interactive works, which form the Interactive Narratives and New Media Writing Prize special collections in the UK Web Archive.

We’ll discuss digital tools used to build these web archive collections, some of the content and themes of the works collected, and the Library’s plans for the future.

Lynda Clark is Research and Development Fellow in Narrative and Play at InGAME: Innovation for Games and Media Enterprise, University of Dundee. Her current research focuses on text generation for writers, although she’s interested in the relationships between audiences, writers and technologies of all kinds. Lynda was previously Innovation Fellow at the British Library, researching tools and methods for collecting web-based interactive narratives. She’s also a novelist and former video game producer. Stories and digital games are her passion.

Giulia Carla Rossi is Curator for Digital Publications in Contemporary British Published Collections. She is responsible for supporting the Library in developing capacity to manage collections of complex digital objects as part of the Emerging Formats Project. Currently, the project is focussing on publications produced for mobile devices (apps) and interactive narratives, covering requirements across the collection management lifecycle. She is interested in interactive storytelling, net art and how new forms of creating and consuming content are challenging existing practices in collecting institutions.

Stella Wisdom is Digital Curator for Contemporary British Collections at the British Library, with research interests in digital publishing, transmedia storytelling and emerging formats; including narrative games, interactive fiction and web comics. Stella promotes creative innovation and partnerships, and has collaborated with the AdventureX narrative games convention, International Games Week in Libraries, and on research projects with University College London’s Institute of Education, Bath Spa University’s Ambient Literature project, and Lancaster University’s Litcraft initiative, which builds literary worlds in Minecraft.
