Event description
An award winning food & drink tour, celebrating independent foodie gems of the Brighton - a must do for locals & visitor alike!

About this Event

Fridays & Saturdays - 11am

COVID-19 Restrictions UPDATED 14th Sept 2020: To keep guides and tour attendees safe we reduced tours from 10 people to 6 people + guide maximum. The guide is "at work" meaning we are safely within legal guidelines. We have adjusted our routes and are outside venues most of the time. We have fully risk assessed our tours and once you book will send further details of our COVID-19 arrangements. We will be very happy to answer any questions you may have. If you are unwell on the day of tour please let us know and we will be happy to swap you to another date once you have recovered. Guides reserve the right to refuse attedance on the tour for anyone displaying COVID type symptoms for any reason. Please bring your own facemask so you can legally enter any shops.

Meeting point: Central Brighton

Our signature walking food tour - The V.I.B Tour (Very Independent Brighton) - is a celebration of independent Brighton – packed with the eclectic sights and tastes from unique makers and producers and some of the unsung heroes of Brighton’s indy food & drink scene.

Whether you’re a visitor to Brighton or locals like us, we’ll take you on a journey to enjoy the taste of real independent Brighton beyond just the pier, Pavilion and the pebble beach.

Over the course of approx. 3 hours you’ll get a chocolate-box selection of the best foodie hotspots that independent Brighton has to offer.

Because Brighton has such a diverse independent food-and-drink scene, we are able to swap in and out vendors depending on season, weather and what we think will work on the day you visit.

That helps us make each V.I.B experience that little bit unique - and means more of our city's food-and-drink superstars can be featured. You might visit off-the-beaten-track street food stalls, hear about sustainable food systems, get down and dirty with the most passionate burger-makers in town, meet food industry heroes, re-live the quintessential old-school seaside Brighton... and a whole lot more.

Suitable for: omnivores, vegetarians and vegans - please specify any dietary requirements on booking.

The V.I.B Tour runs on Fridays & Saturdays: Fridays weekly from April - October & fortnightly from November - March and Saturdays weekly throughout the year.

Outside of these dates/times we are happy to offer year-round private V.I.B Tours for a minimum of 8 people. Please get in touch if you'd like to arrange one.

Praise for The V.I.B Tour:

"Great way to see & taste the real Brighton!"

"Real food for real food lovers"

“Really excellent. Had a great time – just the right time walking and amount of food!”

“It’s local, small & poseur-free. It was real food. A Jay Rainer experience!”

"Delicious & fun"

FAQs

How much is a V.I.B Tour?

£55 per person (sorry – no discounts for students, seniors or Brighton residents)

How long is the tour?

Roughly 3 hours but it sometimes may run over if our foodies are having too much fun!

What is included in the tour cost?

All food and drink tastings + exclusive discounts at Brighton Food Tours participating establishments (should you wish to purchase any products along the way)

How many people are on the tour?

We’re not into big impersonal groups – plus it would be tricky for our lovely vendors to accommodate them – so we prefer an intimate gathering of usually no more than 10 guests to one guide (there is the odd occasion we will stretch to 11 but very rarely).

How many stops are on the tour and and how much food will there be?

We visit approx. 6-7 different foodie hotspots with bite-size tasters at most places. The samples are not meal replacements. Most people describe the entire event as amounting to food equivalent to a light meal.

Do you cater for particular dietary requirements or food allergies/intolerances?

Please let us know of any particular requirements when booking. In most places we can easily cater for vegetarians, vegans and pregnant women if given advance notice. Our vendors will let us know if there are allergens in their products but we can’t guarantee that foods will not have come into contact with allergens so please do exercise your judgement accordingly. See our T&Cs.

Do you offer a range of different tours?

Yes! We run a Wine Rebellion Tour, Beer & Food Matching Tour and all kinds of bespoke and tailored events throughout the year and across the city. Keep an eye on our website for up-to-date info on all tours we're currently running.

If you’re looking for a bespoke, private and/or tailored tour, please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

What do you do in case of bad weather?

Our tours go ahead come rain or shine so be sure to come prepared for all weather eventualities. Umbrellas are pretty redundant in Brighton (it can get rather gusty!) so if it’s wet we recommend waterproof coats with hoods etc.Tours are cancelled very rarely and usually only in the event of an amber weather warning.

How far do you walk on the tour?

It’s a total of approx 2.5 miles – broken up into about 6-8 stops – at a leisurely pace.

Is there anywhere to sit?

A few of our stops have seating, but you’re not guaranteed a seat. You can expect to be standing or walking for the whole tour.

Are there opportunities for toilet stops?

Most of the places we visit do not have toilets but there are few places where you can take a quick comfort break.

Are the tours appropriate for kids?

Our tours are not suitable for children under 12 year olds and have been designed with adults in mind. Babes in arms can come along but we would ask they are in slings rather than in buggies. The tour is not suitable for toddlers. Please let us know when booking if your group includes children.

Do we need to bring anything?

Just bring yourself, in a pair of comfortable shoes. You may also like to bring a bottle of water with you, a bag for any purchases along the way and your smartphone for any en-route photo action and social media sharing. (P.S Don’t forget to tag us – @BTNFoodTours)

Are the tours accessible for wheelchair users?

Let us know your requirements when making your booking enquiry and we’ll do our best to ensure the tour is suitable.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Absolutely. Food tour gift vouchers are a great gift for your friends & family. Just choose which tour you’d like to give, then drop us an email with the number of people you’d like to pay for and we can send the voucher in PDF to you by email to self-print. If you let us know the special person’s name and the celebration too, we can even personalise the voucher for you. Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from purchase and are non-refundable.

Any advice on parking?Parking in Brighton can be expensive and some of the central car parks charge far more than they should, so here are our recommendations on where to park:

Trafalgar Street Car Park (North Laine, close to station) – approx £10 for 6 hoursThe Lanes Car Park (very central, seafront) – approx £20 for 9 hoursRegency Square Car Park (towards Hove, close to i360) – approx £12 for 9 hoursChurchill Square Car Park (very central, shopping centre) – approx £15 for 6 hoursAlso, if you have a Smartphone, check out JustPark which has an excellent app for finding the cheapest places to park. Please note that our tour can sometimes go over 3 hours so please do allow plenty of extra time when planning your car parking.
