Event description

Description

'The Politics of Child Health'

As part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture series, the University is delighted to welcome neonatal expert, Professor Neena Modi, to deliver a keynote talk.

Professor Modi is the academic lead for neonatal medicine in the Department of Medicine, Imperial College London. She heads a multidisciplinary team conducting multicentre randomised controlled trials, experimental medicine studies and health services research. Her research addresses the clinical care of newborn babies and the impact of perinatal influences upon long-term health. Her studies have altered clinical practice and entered into international textbooks of newborn medicine.

In 2007 Professor Modi led the establishment of the Neonatal Data Analysis Unit, and in 2012, the UK Neonatal Collaborative. She holds NHS Trust approvals from members of the Collaborative to receive and analyse clinical data captured at the point of care from neonatal units nationally, and Research Ethics Committee and National Information Governance Board approvals to create a National Neonatal Research Database from these records. This is an internationally unique, national resource to facilitate clinical and health services research, analyse outcomes and support management. It is currently used to support the National Neonatal Audit Programme, other health services evaluations and quality improvement programmes, and a number of research projects.
