Displays:

The event will conclude with an exhibition showcasing the various projects undertaken at QMUL with significant elements which ties into Life Sciences.

  • Inflammation – Fire of Life - Dr Fulvio D’Acquisto, Reader in Immunopharmacology, WHRI

A great deal of research is needed to better understand how our bodies turn off inflammation and promote tissue repair. Research by the team behind this exhibit investigates the (X)-factors that "counteract" the inflammatory response to help the body return to normal functions. They are currently developing novel drugs based on the body's natural defence mechanisms.

This exhibition was showcased at The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2012

Please see http://sse.royalsociety.org/2012/exhibits/fire-of-life/ for further information about the project.

  • Impulsive nature of Zebrafish - Dr Caroline Brennan, Lecturer, SBCS

This exhibit will demonstrate how Zebrafish can give insight to the genes associated with particular psychological diseases. Zebrafish share many genetic characteristics with mammals, which can help give insight to how genes govern behaviour and influence our likelihood to be affected by behavioural issues or addiction.

This exhibition was showcased at The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2013

Please see http://sse.royalsociety.org/2013/exhibits/zebrafish-genetics/ for further information about the project.

Visual media around the 12 LS studentship will also feature at this event covering a wide spectrum of Life Sciences projects to be launched including the fundamentals of Alzheimer’s Disease, modelling of tumour growth and the intersection of sociolinguistics and public health.
