About this event

Join photographer and academic Katie Lock for the launch of The Waiting Room, a deeply personal photographic project developed during and after her cancer treatment at Barts Hospital. Drawing on her experience as a patient, Lock turned to photography to process the altered sense of time and embodiment that accompanied illness.

The project explores the physical and emotional impact of treatment through detailed images taken in and around the historic North Wing of Barts. By capturing scars, textures, architectural fragments, and moments of stillness, The Waiting Room invites reflection onvulnerability, care, and the passage of time. Lock’s photographs sit in quiet dialogue with the hospital’s own layered history, particularly the ongoing ‘restoration’ of the building through the ages.

The event will include a talk, a reading from the book, and a presentation of selected photographs.
