About this event

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) and the History Hub Ulster welcome you to a talk by Nigel Henderson.

This illustrated presentation commemorates VJ Day (15th August 1945) and the end of the Second World War. Whilst many people from Ulster fought and died during the war in the Far East, often called the Forgotten War, Nigel will be focusing attention on local people, both military and civilian, who died in captivity either in Japan, in Japanese-occupied territory, or on the "Hell Ships" used to transport prisoners. There are at least 21 family memorials in graveyards in Northern Ireland commemorating men and women who died whilst in captivity and Nigel will present biographies of a selection of these fatalities.
