Event description
An introduction to the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

About this Event

The Japanese tea ceremony or Way of Tea has long been an old cultural tradition in Japan since the year 815. Primarily influenced by Zen, the art of its performance is both enjoyed within a ceremonial context as well as in an informal tea gathering.

This workshop will be led by visiting professor Yasuko Suga, a design historian based in Tokyo, Japan. She will first give a presentation on the changing history of tea ceremony and the world, and then demonstrate Unohana Temae (one of the four-season procedures for Cha-bako (tea box) tea ceremony - Unohana is a small white flower that blossoms in summer) , and everyone can enjoy a bowl of tea and some sweets. You are more than welcome to try whisking your own green tea for your second bowl!
