Event description

Description

Can the West of England be self-sufficient in meeting its own energy needs?

Zero West invites you to come and play the West of England Energy Game to find out. Based on local data it allows players to understand the scale of the sustainable energy challenge and the relative impact of different actions; the trade-offs between energy supply and demand; and to identify areas of consensus and disagreement that bring the dimensions of public debate into focus and so also offers a basis for identifying the political, social, economic and environmental factors that are involved in addressing it.

The game takes two hours and will be played in groups of 4-6 people. The first phase involves identifying your own responses and preferences and then these are brought into discussion with others in the group to see how they work out across different players.

The game is designed for adults interested in the challenges of developing sustainable energy solutions for the West of England.

Venue TBC. We are doing all we can to find a venue that is fully accessible.

Refreshments available. The event is free - we request donations to cover the cost of refreshments and possibly venue.

This game was initially developed as a national game with inspiration from the late David MacKay's book Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air. It was further developed and adapted to the West of England by BuroHappold Engineering, who also developed a Cornwall version. The game is under a creative commons license.
