Description

THE WINDRUSH SCANDAL EXPOSED …AND REVISITED

In 2018, a hidden bit of our history burst to the surface; The Windrush Scandal. Thousands of Caribbeans were tempted to the 'Motherland' to work in the 1950's and 1960's.Some of them and their families were then later denied-by Home Secretary Theresa May-their basic rights of citizenship and the right to travel freely to and from their homelands. Some lost livelihoods.

It was one of Britain's darker moments.

One journalist-Amelia Gentleman of the Guardian-found this out and picked at this national sore until it became a huge boil that had to be lanced. She was responsible for the resignation of Home Secretary Amber Rudd and changed Government policy Amelia has since been garlanded with journalism prizes. Join her at the Guyana High Commission as she celebrates publication of her book THE WINDRUSH BETRAYAL. She will be in a conversation with acclaimed author Colin Grant, British Jamaican, a former BBC producer whose HOMECOMING;VOICES OF THE WINDRUSH GENERATION (including mayh Guyanese voices like Joyce Trotman and George Mangal) is published in the same week. Both will be available for sale

John Mair Editor of 'OIL DORADO' will chair.
