Event description

Description

On this walk we will be visiting some of the key sites that provide the settings for scenes in Hilary Mantel's prize winning novels, 'Wolf Hall' and 'Bring Up The Bodies' subsequently adapted for television . As well as revisiting the story we will provide additional background and context to the events and personalities from this dramatic period of English and European history.

The walk will take approximately two hours starting at 12PM and will all be in the City of London.

Amongst the sites we will visit

* The monastery that provided the dramatic divorce hearing between Henry and Katherine of Aragon
* The quarters raided by Thomas More rooting out Lutheran literature
* The site of the splendid mansion that was the home of Margaret Plantagenet
* The location of Thomas Cromwell's home in the City, Austin Friars.

So whether you have read the novels or only seen the television series but are curious to find out more then please sign up and come along. Precise joining details will be sent nearer the time.

Jeff Riley is a qualified London guide under the auspices of London's Hackney Carriage Drivers Association

Some reviews of this walk -

* "An excellent walk, with a good balance between walking and stopping at various places to impart information and historical fact and Hilary Mantel's narrative."

* "Wonderful! I have found a whole new interest in Henry VIII and Tudor history! Fab."

* "Brilliant illuminating and entertaining walk and talk."

* "We had a lovely time on the walk. What I especially enjoyed was your 'setting the scene' AT the scene so to speak. The details you gave which enabled us to picture life in the time of the Mantel stories really brought it alive for me."

* "A really excellent tour. I particularly liked the inclusion of quotes from the book which really brought the historical facts to life, and your recall of all the detail was impressive!"
