IIEA Brussels is looking forward to welcoming Martina Fitzgerald, author of "Madam Politician", on the 23rd January 2019 for a discussion on her book and the role of women in politics.

'Madam Politician' was a No.1 bestseller in Ireland and has received huge critical acclaim since its publication in October 2018. It was named Irish political book of the year by several newspapers including the Sunday Business Post.

Based on interviews with 17 of the 19 women have been appointed to cabinet positions in last 100 years as well as the two former female presidents, ‘Madam Politician’ throws light on paucity of female representation in politics and the particular challenges faced by women who seek to enter political life.

The stories in ‘Madam Politician’ are compelling and important, while sometimes shocking and frustrating, and will make sure for a lively discussion in the Northern Ireland Executive Office on Wednesday 23 January."

Martina Fitzgerald is one of Ireland’s leading political journalists and worked for RTE News & Current Affairs for 18 years until December 2018. She was named as one of the most influential Irish journalists on Twitter in 2018. A graduate of University College Dublin - where she was Auditor of the Politics Society - she is now a member of the Editorial Board of UCD's alumni magazine, Connections.
