'The Women in the Room' - In Conversation with Nan Sloane
Date and time
Description
Join us for a talk and Q&A with Nan Sloane whose book 'The Women in the Room' tells:
'the forgotten story of women in the development of the Labour and trade union movements, the campaign for workers’ rights, and the fight against poverty. This is a long-overdue and brilliantly written tribute to the women who helped drive the rise of the Labour Party. The great issues that first stirred them – low wages, insecure work, child poverty and gender inequality – remain such intractable problems today. The book not only reminds us how much these women achieved, but serves as a timely rebuke over how much we still have to do. Any woman who reads it will not just feel inspired but impelled to join the fight we face today.'
Nan is a writer and activist with extensive experience (decades!) of politics, feminism and the Labour Party. As the Director of the Centre for Women and Democracy she sucessfully campaigned to increase hundreds of women’s participation in both civil society and politics, working with partners across the political spectrum.
