WORD FACTORY PRESENTS:
Sublime Women, a celebration of classic and contemporary short story writers.
David Vann's Legends Of A Suicide established him as a master of the short story form - now his stories and novels have created a different kind of literary legend. The detail and discomfort of his prose owes much, he says, to his passion for the great American short story writers, Flannery O'Connor and Katherine Ann Porter.
In an evening of readings and discussion, Vann will share that spirit of learning with acclaimed fiction writer, poet and Word Factory mentor Vannessa Gebbie and one of four recipients of the Word Factory Apprentice Award, Divya Ghelani, making her debut reading at the Word Factory.
In 2002, Vanessa Gebbie read Austerlitz by W G Sebald and discovered she was an aspiring writer. Ten years later, her publications and awards - including for her novel, The Cowards Tale and her guide to short story writing, Short Circuit, proved she was more than aspiring: she was the real thing, with an ability to teach what she had learned.
Please note David will be giving a masterclass on work inspired by his literary heroines Flannery O'Connor and Katherine Porter earlier in the day.
Salon limited to 80 places.
