About Claire Ridsdale:
Claire is Head of English for the Leaf Trust. In this role, she has established the Trust’s moderation team, written a range of materials to support the teaching and assessment of writing and has developed the Leaf Reading Strategy, which will be launched in 2025-26. Prior to joining the Leaf, she was English Adviser and KS2 Moderation Manager for South Gloucestershire LA for 20 years, supporting schools and MATs across the South West. She has been a national moderation trainer for STA and still completes work for ACER in relation to the national development of writing moderation materials. Before becoming an adviser, Claire taught for ten years in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, where she was English Lead, SENCo and a member of SLT.

This session will consider the main recommendations from the DfE’s Writing Framework and the implications of these, both upon classroom practice and the leadership of English. Delegates will be encouraged to consider how the teaching of writing within their school can be supported by the guidance and what development work may be useful. If the revised curriculum and assessment guidance has been published by the time of the session, relevant links to this will also be made. The follow-up webinar will share information about any further national updates and provide an opportunity for delegates to reflect on development work within their schools.
