Event Details

The Xerte Project is holding it's second AGM at the University of Nottingham on October 10th and 11th 2012.

The event is over two days: the first day is for those using the software in their institutions, or supporting end users, whilst the second day is for the open source community of developers to review recent activity and to identify and plan future developments.

The agendas are subject to change. The event is free to attend, and catering will be provided: consequently we will make a charge of £40 for no shows.

Agenda Day One: October 10th - Xerte Community Day
The first day is an opportunity to catch up with all the recent developments, in particular to review all the new features added to Xerte OnlineToolkits 1.8, and to review the eagerly anticipated outputs of the Xenith project, which is producing HTML5 playback capability for Xerte Online Toolkits v2.0.

We'd also like to hear from you about how we can best support the xerte user community, and to discuss ideas for the new Xerte community website. The day will be of interest to all users of the software, and those supporting end users in their institutions, and everyone is welcome.

Welcome
Professor Wyn Morgan will open the event. Wyn is the Director of Teaching and Learning at the Univeristy of Nottingham, and has been a senior sponsor of the Xerte Project from its early days.

The Xerte Project: Overview
A chance to reflect on the story so far, and see just how far we've come in the last five years, and to consider some of the key challenges facing the project going forward towards v2.0 and thinking ahead towards v3.0.

New Templates in Xerte Online Toolkits v1.8
The recently released Xerte Online Toolkits v1.8 contains a total of 75 templates and a number of new features and enhancements. Ron Mitchell will guide you through the new tools.

Internationalisation
A common request from the Xerte user comunity has been around internationalisation: making it easy to deploy the software in different languages. Tom Reijnders will provide an overview of how internationlisation works in Xerte Online Toolkits, and show how the user comunity can help provide new language packs for Xerte Online Toolkits.

Accessibility: improvements in Toolkits v1.8
Accessibility remains high on the agenda. In this session AListair McNaught from JISC TechDIS will provide a summary of enhancements made in Xerte Online Toolkits v1.8.

Xerte Community Website
Inge Donkervoort will introduce the new Xerte Community website, and talk about how you can get involved in the next steps in developing our fantastic community.

The Xenith Project: HTML5 output in Xerte Online Toolkits
HTML5 output for Xerte Online Toolkits is possibly the most highly anticipated piece of new functionality the project has ever delivered. In this session Fay Cross will talk you thorough the new HTML5 output option and demonstrate the new interface and templates. Alistair McNaught wil present the significant accessibility opportunities offered by HTML5 delivery. There will be a chance for you to try the content yourself on a range of devices.

Have you any specific accessibility requirements that would be helpful for us to anticipate? If so, please contact the organisers and we''ll be in touch to discuss how we can make the day as accessibile as possible.

Agenda Day Two: October 11th - Developer Day
The second day is for developers working on the project's codebase, or for those who like to get involved in contributing to the Xerte Project, whether writing code or documentation, helping to test the software - or anything else.

At the last AGM, the developer community outlined all the plans that have now delivered Xerte Online Toolkits 1.8. This day is an opportunity to review the recent activity, and plan for future developments.
