Description
We are delighted to invite you to attend 'Revolution, Oppression and Political Violence', the YTL Law & Justice Forum in Politics, Philosophy & Law.
In light of the number of revolutions and civil wars that have swept the Arab world since the end of 2010, it has been observed that we may be entering “a new Age of Revolution”. However, the phenomenon of revolution has received surprisingly little attention in recent debates. We currently lack an account of the conditions under which it is permissible to resort to war in order to overthrow profoundly unjust regimes, and we lack an account of the moral constraints that exist on such attempts. Similar problems arise when we consider the question of how states are permitted to respond to insurgencies whose aim is to overthrow existing regimes. To address these questions the YTL Centre for Politics Philosophy and Law will bring together some of the theorists working at the forefront of these debates.
