Event description

Description

A ten week course for writers wanting to complete a new full length play.

10 days 60 hours These 10 weeks and any following workshops will follow the same format as most University MA Theatre / Playwriting courses. Simon has taught MA Theatre for several years.

Testimonials from 2018 Course - Advanced Writing for Theatre

I learnt how to use silence / stage directions / the 5 act structure and how to surprise my audience.

Simon is focused and knowledgeable, a superb communicator and when he gives a critique it is insightful, helpful and apposite.

I learnt how to pare back my use of language for theatre, to home in on the essential desires driving my characters.

I have learnt how to highten the stakes through my narratives. The teaching on this course can not be praised highly enough. It is not taught in an autocratic way, a personal interpretive manner was used.

Course dates

7th May 2019 - 14th May - 21st May - 28th May - 4th June - 11th June - 18th June - 25th June - 2nd July - 9th July.

Each session will explore a new element of theatre writing from structure, narrative, dramatic action, dialogue, character, stage directions and form. We will also explore a new text each week and workshop new pieces of work from course participants. Some of this work will be set by the course leader and some will be a continuation of your own work/play. The course will also incorporate at least two one on one tutorials with a view to helping participants towards creating a full length new play. It’s recommended that you have some experience in writing for theatre, whether on a previous course or at University. This course is focused on helping you complete a play you can be proud of and ready to submit to theatres.

There may be a follow on from this corse which will involve getting your plays on their feet with actors and directors depending upon what the group want.
