About this event

Health • Personal health

An informal, friendly, online therapeutic creative writing group (of no more than 8 participants). No writing experience necessary.

Please join the waitlist if the event has sold out. If there is sufficient interest, an additional session will be scheduled.

November's theme: Weird is a Compass (let it direct you to the untamed truths of who you are). Part of The Writers Workshop's Weird Weekend. Full programme here.

This ongoing monthly therapeutic/expressive writing group is for anyone who enjoys (or thinks they might enjoy) writing for pleasure or to develop self-awareness, self-understanding and self-connection. Using prose excerpts, poetry, images and other prompts, this group invites you to explore your inner and outer worlds through writing. Sharing your writing is always optional but the invitation is there to share and discuss your writing or discoveries with others.

The aim of the workshop is to enable participants to enhance their well-being through emotional expression and illumination. Why not make a date with yourself on the first Sunday of the month, to enhance your sense of well-being and self-connection through writing?

What you will need: Have something with you to write on and with. Ideally, connect to the group from a space that is confidential and free from interruptions. If there are other people in your home that might overhear, please wear ear/headphones to protect the confidentiality of other participants.

Please note: these workshops are for adults aged 18 and over. Refunds are only available up to 7 days before the event.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an ongoing group?

Yes. Each workshop works as a stand-alone event but there is a series of them, each taking place on the first Sunday of the month between 4.30pm-6.30pm.

Is this a therapy group?

No. The hope is that participants will gain therapeutic benefit from the workshops but this is not a therapy group and there is never a requirement to share your writing or how you are feeling if that’s not right for you.

What sort of themes will be explored in the workshops?

The workshops provide an opportunity to connect to our emotions and express them, so the themes will include things like: love, self-acceptance, belonging, meaning, identity, hope, impermanence and loss, regret, kindness, courage...anything and everything that connects us to our being human.

Where can I find out more about the facilitator?

Emma Garrard is a philosophy graduate, a Biblio/Poetry therapist and a psychotherapist. She trained with the International Academy for Poetry Therapy and now offers a range of therapeutic creative writing groups to promote well-being. You can find out more about Emma here: www.wordsforwellness.co.uk
