Come along for a morning exploring the uses of deep, static stretching practices - in resilience training, stress release, and for increasing interoception and body awareness.

In a group of practitioners working in the physical therapies, we’ll look at how therapeutic yoga practices can complement and support your own training and professional work.

For physical therapies professionals, who work with the body, or use their body in their work, this session is designed to help you meet the associated stresses and strain of physically demanding work, as well as the impact of meeting your clients' stress.

You'll get to settle in and experience a taster session of yin practice, as a technique to:

  • Increase resilience by exploring deliberate creation and release of discomfort in static stretches
  • Targeted loading and release in deeper, less elastic tissues, like ligaments, tendons, connective tissues and fascia
  • Work effectively with specific areas of the body, useful for rest or recovery days in a training programme
  • Increase interoception, practicing honing awareness and subtle detail of the internal body
  • Improve awareness of nuance around sensation, distinguishing discomfort from pain, and tension from compression
  • Explore functional, personalised adjustments to meet individual anatomy and skeletal variation

Afterwards, with time together over teas & coffees, we'll enjoy the wealth of experiences and perspectives in the room, across professions like physiotherapy, personal training, Pilates and yoga teaching, body-work therapies, coaches and sports professionals.

We'll explore how lower impact movement and loading of the joints and tissues may support your care of your body in your own work, and complement your care of your own clients. As well as time to catch up with others in similar fields, while you take a morning for yourself.

The session will be hosted upstairs at Empower Health Club, in the new health studio. Fully equipped with all the props and kit needed, so you only need to bring yourself and come in comfortable clothes.

The yin practice is mainly floor-based, passive stretching, so doesn't require any previous experience of yoga, or any flexibility. Often called yin yoga, it’s actually a practice developed out of a martial arts background rather than from a yoga lineage.

Yin involves targeted, static and sustained loading of tissues, to work them in a different way to higher impact movement and exercise.

Booking is open to professions like physiotherapists, personal trainers, Pilates and yoga teachers, body-work therapists, breath work instructors, sports coaches and more.
