There is no new water, creative workshop: An introduction to Arté Útil
Overview
Explore useful art (Arte Útil) and how creative methods can help us respond to environmental challenges. Owen and Alessandra will introduce the Arte Útil Archive as a tool to explore ways in which communities, artists and ideas can explore issues of place, urgency and climate.
We’ll look at some artworks as case studies, and invite the group to pick a few (pre-printed archive cards) to curate their own
‘exhibition’ to explore the themes. Contribute your ideas, stories, and perspectives in a hands-on workshop.
How might some of these ideas spark a way of thinking for us as a community of practice? What will our ‘enquiry questions’ be?
Your experiences and insights will help shape the collaborative artwork and tools for civic ocean action. How will the experience of participating in this help us develop a bespoke idea for Plymouth and other coastal communities?
Ocean Cultures is a two-year programme funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, aiming to establish a community-led model for ocean climate justice in Plymouth, UK.
