What would your KS1 children like to know about frogs? Find out about life cycles and take part in a weighing and measuring activity.
About this event
This is busy session 30 minute session all about frogs, aimed at KS1 classes.
We'll be looking at the frog lifecycle and finding out lots of facts about common frogs (the ones found in the UK). We'll make links with the maths curriculum through a measurement activity during the session. There's also an opportunity for you to incorporate a little bit of PE prior to the session. We hope that your class will ask lots of questions via the chat.
Preparation for the session:
1. Jumping - optional activity beforehand
We will be making comparisons between people and frog jumping distances. If you have time before the session the children can measure how far they can jump. Can they compare this to equivalent body lengths? They could try doing standing jumps and jumps from a crouched position, like a frog, and then compare the difference. Don't worry if you don't have time to do this before the session - you can have your class make a guess at the question being asked.
2. Measurement Activity
During the session we are going to talk about the weights and sizes of some frogs. The children can take part in this activity as we go along. You can choose to do it either as a whole class or in groups. Per group, you will need a ruler, a set of scales able to weigh items from 10g to 3.5kg (digital kitchen scales are ideal) and a small range of classroom or household items to weigh - you won't need anything elaborate and some suggestions will be sent to you beforehand.
We really hope that you can join us for this frog themed session.
We will send you a link to the recording after the session. However for any schools that cannot make the sessions there is also a ticket to request access to the recording.
Please click on the green button above to register for tickets. You will need 1 ticket per login and will need to use the same email address to login to the Zoom session. We are asking teachers to screen share this Zoom webinar with their students and to ensure that they are accompanied by a responsible adult.
