Event description

Description

The aim of this event is understanding Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHR) and how to raise the quality in the South West to bring about greater understanding amongst agencies and partners, of lessons that can be learnt through
a DHR and how services can work together and implement changes in their practices to prevent the escalation of domestic homicide

The news in September 2019 told us that 173 people were killed as a result of domestic homicide.

Domestic Homicide Reviews are multi-agency and look to identify lessons and learning. Domestic Homicide Reviews became a statutory requirement from April 2011.

Designed to promote key learning with the aim of informing and shaping future policy and operational practices furthering the ability to safeguard victims and prevent domestic homicide.

Guest Speaker Frank Mullane MBE is the founder of Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA).

AAFDA is a member of the national panel that quality assure domestic homicide reviews.

Frank founded AAFDA, a centre of excellence for reviews after Domestic Homicide & for specialist peer support,in 2008, five years after the murder of his sister, Julia and nephew, William Pemberton. Frank and his family campaigned for 5 years to uncover all the facts. The Pemberton Review was described by one expert as ‘’setting the gold standard’’.

This is an opportunity for us all to learn common lessons and improve practice at a local level.
