Description

“There’s Nowhere Like London”: Celebrating what is unique about studying medicine & dentistry in London will showcase some of the opportunites available to the city's medical, dental and postgraduate health students. A panel discussion will also take place, exploring the different ways in which medical schools and their students interact with London and with their local communities, and how these opportunities can be maximised.

We have case studies from across London Medicine’s membership lined up, covering:

  • Collaboration with the Crick Institute, University College London

  • Supporting clinical PhD students to commercialise research outputs to improve outcomes for cancer patients, Institute of Cancer Research

  • Pre-hospital Medicine, Queen Mary University of London

  • Encouraging creativity in London's medical students, St George’s, University of London

  • The Community Action Project: medical students learning through service in the community, Imperial College London

  • Barts Community Smiles, Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London

  • Working with asylum seeker and refugee communities in London, St George’s, University of London

  • Widening Success: becoming a doctor/dentist at a London medical and dental school, Queen Mary University of London

Panel speakers will include Professor Jenny Higham, Principal, St Georges, Ed Hughes, Head of Health and Medicine, OfS and a student representative. Professor Deborah Gill, Medical School Director, UCL & Chair of London Medicine will lead the event.

The event will take place from 3-5pm, in central London (venue to be advised following registration).

This London Medicine event forms part of London Higher's inaugural London HE Week, which will run from 17-21 June 2019. This will be a week packed full of activities and events hosted by London Higher, showcasing the work of our divisions, networks and members.
