Join us for, Faith in Every Family: Together for SEND Families, an online evening gathering on Monday 13 October 2025 at 6pm, hosted by Tower Hamlets Inter Faith Forum. We’ll explore how faith groups are — and can be — vital partners in supporting children and families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- A recent Ofsted and CQC inspection (June-2025) found that children and young people with SEND in Tower Hamlets “are genuinely noticed and valued.” The report praised many improvements since 2021 around learning support, and family engagement, but flagged continuing challenges with EHC plan delays, diagnosing learning disabilities, and transitioning into adulthood.
- The Council has approved a new SEND & Inclusion Strategy 2024-2029, developed in partnership with families, young people, educators and service providers. It focuses on six priority areas, including early identification of SEND more coordinated support, enhancing services for young adults, and ensuring all children are supported to thrive.
- A recent decision by the Local Government & Social Care Ombudsman ordered Tower Hamlets Council to pay compensation for failures in arranging suitable education and communicating properly with a mother of a child with SEND. This highlights the impact of gaps in service.
What We’ll Explore:
- The current SEND landscape in the borough
- The concept of wider determinants of health related to housing, and how faith groups can help improve conditions that affect mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing
- Good practice examples of how faith and community groups are currently supporting families with SEND in Tower Hamlets
- Practical, collaborative ideas: what faith settings can do now — outreach, awareness-raising, volunteering, advocacy, partner working
Who Should Come:
Faith leaders, volunteers, carers, parents & guardians of children with SEND, SEND professionals, community organisations, and anyone interested in making SEND support stronger and more equitable in Tower Hamlets.
