About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Have you ever felt that your life has become part of a machine, one that is killing our environment? It's the making of the industrial era that wreaked havoc on humanity and its well-being, and most of all, its destroyed nature. It's time for a paradigm shift!

Fast Forward 2030 invites you to join us in this workshop to acquire Biomimicry and Systems Thinking tools. Biomimicry is learning from nature's genius and applying those lessons to human design while Systems Thinking examines how interrelated elements can organize together to form a new living entity, with a common objective, that strives and evolves.

Imagine our communities strive and flourish like forest ecosystems.

Working teams or organisations can cooperate to reach their goals like flocks of migrating birds. Reflecting on how natural systems operate while reflecting on our own can change our perception, work, and relationships, sparking our creativity to make changes that can enhance the living systems we are part of. So, let's work together and think like nature!

About the Facilitator

Joanna Jurdi is an architect specialising in Biomimicry. She works on designing regenerative circular systems within built environments. Her perception of designing a space is birthing a living system within a structure that interacts with its surroundings.

Joanna is also a board member of Fast Forward 2030 Lebanon, who worked on integrating Sustainable Development Goals within organisations. Referring to nature as a mentor and model is a tool to ensure a better quality of life, best described by Janine Benyus: "Creating conditions conducive to Life”.

About the venue

Sami Makarem Cultural Center is a mansion built during the 17th century that was abandoned, then bought and restored by Sami Makarem (a poet, writer, artist, and scholar) and his family. They turned that exquisite human heritage into a cultural centre open to all people free of charge to share art, poetry, and culture.
