About this Event

Fringe by Design at Bridgend is a day for sharing your stories of participation, learning from and working with others.

The day will be a mix of being together outdoors and indoors. Bridgend facilities have full disability access, easy parking and good public transport links.

Schedule

10:00 Welcome

10:15-10:45 Bridgend: the development and the people with Architect Malcolm Fraser

Malcolm will tell and live illustrate the story of the Bridgend Community Farmhouse refurbishment. Hear how he worked with the Bridgend community to create a physical place that reflects Bridgend's values of welcoming, people power, care and justice, enabling, creativity and belonging. We'll end on reflective discussion with Malcolm.

10:45-11:00 Break

11:00-11:40 Co-designing a digital mental health service with Stirling's young people: a discussion with technologist Michael McTernan of Voxsio and Katy McNeil from the Scottish Government's CivTech programme

Michael and Katy will discuss CivTech and its first ever citizen sourced challenge, which saw Voxsio co-commissioned by young people who also informed the design of a conversational Artificial Intelligence prototype. This session incorporates fishbowl conversation between delegates, Michael and Katy.

11:40-12:00 Exploring Bridgend walk and talk

Optional time to spend with someone you've met in the morning and explore Bridgend grounds.

12:00- 12:50 Story circle

Join the story circle to reflect on what you’ve heard and the conversations you’ve been having. What stories are there in this circle? What stands out to you? What questions does that trigger for you?

12:50- 14:00 Introduce options for the afternoon and lunch

The organising team will introduce what's coming in the afternoon then break for lunch from the Farmhouse cafe.

Afternoon tracks

The afternoon is slightly staggered with options to take part in different sessions:

14:00- 15:00 or 16:00 - Track 1: Making the Bothy work

An insight and ideation session where you can help create a high level plan that could be used by Bridgend for their developing eco-Bothy. How might Bridgend make their Bothy sustainable and income generating?

14:00-15:00 or 16:00 - Track 2: Peer consultation

Bring your problem solving skills and your design problems for a facilitated peer consultation session using the Liberating Structures formats Wise Crowds and Wicked Questions. Get help, give help and experience Liberating Structures!

15:00- 17:00- Track 3: Consequence Scanning with Doteveryone and the Scottish Government's Digital Participation Team

Consequence Scanning is a concept developed by Doteveryone which highlights the interface between technology and policy. It is a way for organisations to consider the potential consequences of their product or service on people and society and provides an opportunity to mitigate or address potential harms or disasters before they happen.
