Description

Arrival and lunch served at 12.30pm for a 1.00pm start and will finish at 2.30pm.

At this meeting, we will be discussing ‘The ICT sector and the challenge of change in the light of Brexit’ and the session will be led by Dr Elizabeth Lomas, Senior Lecturer in Information Governance within the Department of Information Studies, UCL and Julie McLeod, Professor in Records Management, Computer and Information Sciences, Northumbria University.

This is a great opportunity for Dynamo members to share their views and contribute to this research. All findings will be shared.

Research Aim

The research, a collaboration between Northumbria University and UCL[i], is exploring the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector’s responses and attitudes to dealing with the far-reaching challenge triggered by the UK’s Brexit decision. Professionals who work in this sector, whether in public or private organisations, are well practised at harnessing opportunities in response to fast changing environments. Therefore the study is gathering views at three key points in the Brexit process – the first immediately after the decision (see https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0186452); the second at the midpoint of the process (this event); and the third in 2020 one year after the planned exit.

Event Structure

The event will focus on the opportunities for the ICT sector using a STEEPLE model. (Socio-cultural, Technological, Economic, Environmental, Political, Legal and Ethical). We will draw together key messages and actions for the ICT sector and policy makers from across these factors. To encourage a positive dynamic for moving forward action and policy for the sector we will only discuss opportunities. A similar event will be held in London engaging EU and international participants alongside UK ones.

Benefits of Participation

  • To engage in a constructive dialogue specifically about the opportunities Brexit presents for the ICT sector
  • To contribute to and influence the public facing evidence base for the ICT sector capturing how the opportunities may be harnessed. Whilst the Government is speaking to business leaders in confidence, decisions by policy makers will in part be informed by the public facing evidence base. Clearly this mid-point in the research process is key to influencing policy makers and informing the ICT sector at a critical stage of the Brexit process.

Dynamo and/or participants can choose to be credited for taking part or to be anonymised in any outputs from the event.

Research Outcomes

  • Identification of opportunities for the ICT sector in the light of the Brexit challenge
  • Development of ICT sector position(s) on the Brexit challenge
  • Development of an evidence base of perspectives on opportunities to inform policy makers

PLEASE NOTE – we have a limited capacity for this event and so tickets will be on a first come first served basis.
