Description

This course is targeted at all developers who are starting to scale their problems beyond the single thread and dealing with the messy concurrent distributed real world.

It will give you some tools and experience of a better way of dealing with complex concurrency issues.

The course will be a practical introduction to solving concurrency and scaling issues with actors using Akka. It will be a whistle stop mix of presentation, practical exercises and Q & A sessions. This course will give you a practical experience of solving concurrency issues using actor systems.

STUDENT PREREQUISITES

Students need to have a experience of coding in a high level language (Java/Scala/C#) and have a laptop available. The exercises will be in Scala, but a minimum subset, so a review of http://docs.scala-lang.org/tutorials/ or equivalent would be useful beforehand but not absolutely required.

Rory is passionate about creating better software through tooling and education, he is involved in a number of open source projects, but mainly focused on Ensime, providing Scala editor support to your favourite text editors.
