Event description

Description

A morning to launch ‘Thinking of You: A resource for the spiritual care of people with dementia’ by Joanna Collicutt (BRF, Diocese of Oxford, 2017). This book is a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the subject of dementia. It is a practical resource for people with dementia and those who care for them.

Joanna is the Diocesan Adviser for the Spiritual Care of Older People, and is a clinical neuropsychologist with many years’ experience of working with people living with conditions affecting the brain, including dementia.

At the forum Joanna will give an overview of what dementia is, and what it means for those affected and their carers, and she will reflect on the key psychological, social, and spiritual issues raised by this group of health conditions, There will be an opportunity to explore some ways of living well with dementia and continuing to grow spiritually in and through it, and to consider distinctive Christian responses to dementia.

We will also hear a range of stories from churches that are seeking to offer appropriate pastoral care for people affected by dementia, in the context of church (including worship settings), and the wider community, so that we can share ideas of good practice.
