Thinking Under Fire!

Feminism, Intersectionality and Trauma Informed Approaches

Women and Girls Network Conference 2019

Women and Girls Network (WGN) is holding its first conference on Friday 11th October 2019. The theme for our conference Thinking Under Fire! came about from conversations about the impact of the current socio-political climate on survivors of all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG). While VAWG organisations struggle to survive, women and girls are contacting VAWG services in unprecedented numbers, needing support, advice and safe spaces. The increasing demands for services and our commitment to provide quality resources and support, situates us in a constant struggle where we are thinking and responding under fire. This compromises our spaces to reflect, integrate and share promising practice aimed at creating new strategies for survivors, transformation, growth and healing.

We believe it is crucial to take time to pause, to learn from our past, to reflect on our present and grow into our future. Thinking Under Fire! is an opportunity for leaders, practitioners, innovators, activists and survivors to come together and take this opportunity to connect, reflect and learn from innovative speakers and facilitators drawn from the VAWG sector; Academia and women and girls with lived experience.

This is a call to challenge, critique and take ownership of concepts such as intersectionality, feminism and trauma informed approaches from the theoretical abstract to the practice and application. The day will offer the opportunity to take time to connect with a renewed visioning of ourselves, as proactive change makers intent on developing meaningful strategies to end Violence against Women and Girls.

The conference will have a range of keynote speakers and spaces for reflection and action.

In line with our ethos of Black Feminist leadership, the conference speakers and facilitators will be black and/or minoritised women - bright stars of our future and wise elders of our present. Join WGN for a time of revolutionary love.
