ThirstyTalk #2

The Archaeology of Undocumented Migration: Life and Death in the US-Mexico Borderlands

with Ian Ostericher

Ian is a photographer and PhD candidate in Archaeology at the University of Cambridge. He has been involved with the Undocumented Migration Project - a long term study of clandestine border crossing in the Arizona Sonoran Desert led by Prof. Jason De Leon - since 2010, and will be talking about the risks and dangers of migrant journeys. US border security is shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding, especially since Trump’s promise to “build a wall”. In fact, there is already a wall across much of the border, with areas of desert left open to funnel migrants into harsh and dangerous terrain. Ian will discuss how US border policy has dictated the risky crossing routes and the consequent dangers migrants face, going in depth about the migrant experience and how researchers can study this complex and clandestine process.

Come and join us for a talk of a different kind plus Al Chile will be there to serve some great mexican food.
