A MUST for aspiring, inspiring and writing enthusiasts alike!

This informative in conversation with Rosie and Ralph will span Rosie's impressive collection of novels, poetry and her recent output of lyrics for ‘Crocodile Promises’, the latest album for The March Violets.

We'll explore the differences in Rosie's outputs including her writing processes and determination for success in a changing world of AI, potential plagiarism and how you overcome challenges to be the well respected and successful writer across these different disciplines.


A range of Rosie's books will be avaiable for purchase via our Festival bookstore partners Blackwells, Manchester. A dedicated signing with Rosie will follow the event.


About the Author:

ROSIE GARLAND has been named one of the most compelling LGBT+ writers in the UK today. She writes fiction, poetry and song lyrics, & is author of four historical novels: ‘The Palace of Curiosities’, ‘Vixen’ and ‘The Night Brother’, described by The Times as “a delight...with shades of Angela Carter.”

Her latest novel, ‘The Fates’ (Quercus) is a retelling of the Greek myth of the Fates.

Her new poetry collection ‘This is How I Fight’ (Nine Arches) is out in June 2025.

Rosie is also lead singer & lyricist of post-punk band The March Violets. Their latest album ‘Crocodile Promises’ is out now with Metropolis Records.

About the host:

Ralph Dartford hails from Basildon in Essex, and now lives in West Yorkshire, having got there via Australia, Barcelona, and Los Angeles. He was a founding member of influential spoken word collective ‘A Firm of Poets’, and his first pamphlet of poetry, Cigarettes, Beer and Love, was published by Ossett Observer Presents in 2013. His first collection, Recovery Songs, was published by Valley Press in 2019, and Hidden Music followed in 2021.

Ralph is the poetry editor at Northern Gravy and is studying for a Creative Writing PhD at the University of Huddersfield, where his practice and research is concentrated on the working-class poetry of the twenty-first century. For gainful employment, Ralph works as a project manager and educator for the National Literacy Trust within the Criminal Justice team.
