The 1960s were pivotal but what were they really like? Permissive or conservative? Swinging London or kitchen sink? Melvyn Stokes and Matthew Jones present some indications from their research into the Cultural Memory of 1960s British Cinema-Going. Who did people go with? What did they do there? How did the cinemas operate? What does this tell about this turbulent decade?
Henry K. Miller reveals how A.J.P. Taylor and Thorold Dickinson, the first Professor of Film Studies at the Slade in the 1960s, also worked to reach out beyond the university environment.
Everyone is welcome to attend, including those who might wish to contribute their own memories of going to the cinema in the 1960s to the discussion.
