About this event

Join This Might Help for their official launch event and panel on 'How to best support the people in our lives' for Mental Health Awareness Month. Founder of This Might Help Stef Sword-Williams will be interviewing special guests:

  • Dr. Romy Gaad - Consultant Psychiatrist, and clinical research fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London.
  • Poonam Dhuffer - Embodiment coach, Facilitator and Founder of YSM8
  • Nick Gould - Founder of YoGeez

During the panel we'll discuss:

  • What it means to be a care for others
  • How to spot signs that people might need support
  • How to support ourselves whilst supporting others
  • How to hold space and actively listen to those who are struggling
  • How to show empathy

Arrival drinks from 6.30, the panel will start at 7pm, please arrive on time for limited disruption during the discussion. The event will be hosted at Second Home Spitafields top floor / roof terrace.

OUR MISSION

This Might Help is a community platform offering guidance, reassurance and peer-to-peer support to people who are helping others through mental health issues, sexual assualt and trauma. Our mission is to provide supporters with educational content, resources and expert advice to help carers look after themselves and those around them as well as they possibly can.

MEET OUR PANELISTS:

Dr. Romy Gad el Rab is a Consultant Psychiatrist, and clinical research fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London. She helps those with treatment resistant depression and Bipolar disorder, as well as working as a doctor in the UKs first problematic Internet Gaming clinic. (Having trained in both medicine and Design she works on projects that examine the human impact of the design process. She is a resident at Somerset House Studios as part of Hyphen-Labs, an international team of artists, engineers, scientists and architects, creating at the intersection of art and emerging technology and with Hyphen-Labs has been a creative producer for projects at Somerset House, and the Tate.)

Poonam Dhuffer is an embodiment coach, facilitator and founder of YSM8. She is devoted to creating accessible healing spaces for humanity. Her mission is to guide people home to their inner wisdom and empower people to recognise they are enough. Poonam integrates Dharmic wisdom, body-centred therapy and somatic practices to create accessible workshops, talks and coaching for everyone. YSM8 is the mantra she told herself every day to wade through anxiety, panic attacks and depression. She hosts wellbeing workshops, talks, holds discussion spaces and coaching for communities. Poonam has worked with global brands, mental health charities, universities and communities such as Beats By Dre, Fitbit, V&A, Converse, Selfridges, Mind, LCF; and consultancy for Nike, The Future Laboratory, IKEA, PHE and many more.

Nick Gould is the founder of YoGeez. YoGeez was created to help men (geezers, lads, blokes) to take better care of their mental, emotional and physical health. Getting better together, growing together. Offering a place for men to open up about their problems, disccussing common struggles and offering free advice on how to navigate low points. We have honest conversations on our podcast plus additional content including our film No Man's An Island; as well as wellbeing exercises designed for men.
