About this event

Born into a poor family, this is a rags to riches story about a self-taught man who would go on to become one of the greatest telescope makers. He built what was at the time the biggest telescope in the world, made a telescope for Prince Albert and even built steam cars.

Organiser The Astronomical Society of Edinburgh

Organiser of Thomas Cooke: Telescope Maker to the Empire

Come along to one of our meetings, hear interesting talks, find out about what’s in the sky this month and meet other astronomers.

We meet monthly, usually on the first Friday of the month at 7:30pm, and are always happy to see new faces at our meetings. The Astronomical Society of Edinburgh (ASE) has been holding meetings in Edinburgh about astronomy since 1924.
