Description

Westminster archivist Alison Kenney will show us her specially chosen items in the Search Room relating to the topography of Thorney Island and its lost buildings of the 18th and 19th centuries: watercolours, maps, cuttings, photographs and engravings. We will then be shown the Conservation Studio and finally down to the Strong Rooms to view letters patent from Henry III to Westminster Abbey and other treasures. Alison will discuss the social history of the area from the 18th to 20th centuries sourcing the census of 1851, Booth's Poverty Map, Gustav Dore illustrations, watercolours, cuttings and more. This definitive tour should not to be missed by any Thorney Island enthusiast.
