Event description
Good views of Housesteads and Vindolanda forts from lesser known paths south of the "Wall".

About this Event

Our walk begins with a steady climb from the village onto Thorngrafton Common, the site of a Roman signal station giving good views of the South Tyne valley.

The Roman road Stanegate is crossed en route to Housesteads Fort via East Crindledykes. We then follow the Wall eastwards over Hotbank Crags with good views of Crag Lough and to the south of Vindolanda Fort.

We descend close to the fort passing a Roman milestone on the way before taking footpaths above the burn back to Bardon Mill.

Please dress for changeable weather, wear walking boots or shoes and bring drinks and snacks. If you have not already booked online, please pay on arrival.

Lace up your boots and enjoy a great time outside.
