Event Details

Professor Heather McGregor ran a successful global headhunting company for sixteen years before she joined the faculty of Heriot-Watt University and became the Executive Dean of Edinburgh Business School. Along the way she has worked to identify the key elements that make up a successful career (her book, Careers Advice for Ambitious Women, has been translated into multiple languages) and she has written extensively on the relative merits of human capital (what you know) and social capital (who you know). Is life a meritocracy? And does it matter if it isn’t? Come and find out.  (PS – Professor McGregor has done two seasons of stand-up comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe, in 2010 and 2013, so don’t expect this to be dull).
