Event description

Description

Join Helen Bonsor from British Geological Society as she shares her thoughts and experiences in research leadership.

Speaker Biography

Helen Bonsor is Deputy Chief Geologist of Scotland at the British Geological Survey, where she has worked since 2008, having graduated with a BSc in Geoscience from the University of St Andrews (2007) and an MSc in Hydrogeology from the University of Birmingham (2008). Her work within Scotland is now leading to the establishment of new wider collaboration and processes for research partnerships between Scotland’s statutory environmental agencies, key research bodies, and Scottish Government, to ensure existing and future research has greater impact and benefit to supporting local and national planning policy. This work directly feeds in the Planning Bill (2017) Scotland which demands new communication and connectivity between Scotland’s research bodies, agencies and governments, to help inform appropriate spatial approaches to delivering key priorities, and Scotland’s Energy strategy, Economic strategy and Climate change delivery plan. Outside of the UK, Helen is chair of the International Association of Hydrogeologists urban groundwater network, and has keen groundwater research interests in understanding groundwater resilience to climate and demand within Africa and Asia, and the potential of groundwater resources to support society in these regions.
