Event description

Description

A unique Son and Lumiere concert performance of a beautiful new Requiem "Thousand Colours of Sunset" by Jonathan Crow. Composed over a 2 year period in Munich and in Bristol, this work comprises 10 movements each with its own colour theme to symbolise the colours of sunset at different levels of meaning. The work will be performed by The Arcus Singers (Arcus is Latin for Rainbow), a vocal ensemble formed specially for the performance, and cello soloist Linda Hansard, violin soloist Helen Sherwood, tenor soloist Nick Sherwood, soprano soloist Katie Bilner, and the composer Jonathan Crow on the keyboard and Robin Pillinger on the organ, under the conductorship of Geoff Wickham of the Yate Choral Society. Coloured lighting will be used to enhance the performance with each movement having its own colour to the music - Son et Lumiere. The venue is an ancient church in the Cotswolds north of Bristol, which is well suited to choral performance with stunning acoustics. The concert will also include Faure's Elegie for cello and piano, Messiaen's Apparition de l'Eglise eternelle for organ, and Mozart's Laudate Dominum for solo soprano. Further details of the Sunset Requiem as it is nicknamed can be found on www.svbcofe.org.uk under Requiem, Sunset Requiem, Thousand Colours of Sunset Requiem or Jonathan Crow, where extracts of the work can be heard. It is intended for refreshments to be served after the concert.
