The UK has always provided a fertile environment for innovation in South Asian dance. The multicultural society offers SA artists unique opportunities to adapt these highly codified forms to new contexts.

With Threads of Change, we are seeking to build an archive of South Asian dance in the UK. We want to sit down with artists and converse on what they created, what provoked their inquiries and how they reached new audiences.

For our first episode, we have Divya Ravi, a notable artist who has been creating unique work in Bharatanatyam. We are diving into her work 'Akhyat Akhayana' on feminist voices in indigenous cultures. Pondering over the various poems, figures, and performance elements with Divya is Venu Parijat Joshi, an artist and researcher.

This informal tete-a-tete is taking place on 22nd August 2025 at Arts House Studios in Camden. We would love to have you with us.

Date: Friday, 22nd August 2025

Time: 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm

Venue: Balcony Studio, Arts House Studios, Camden NW1 0AD.

Menaka Manch is a stage for the classical dance styles from South Asia. This is our humble effort to bring the best of South Asian talent to Leeds and share the richness, compleity and diversity to audiences in the city.

Threads of Change is a series of talk shows with South Asian dance-makers reflecting on their performance work. With these episodes, we want to create an archive of South Asian dance in the UK and mark its evolution over the past few decades.
