"Threads of Home: Art, Objects and Belonging"
MEET THE ARTISTS: 23rd September (18:30 - 20:30)
27th August - 6th January
A community textile project led by Hafza Studio in partnership with Creative Health Camden’s weekly workshop community ‘Freedom to Make’
Threads of Home is a community arts project that explores how creativity can support wellbeing, celebrate identity, and bring people together. Led by artist, educator and workshop facilitator Hafza Yusuf from Hafza Studio and delivered in collaboration with Creative Health Camden’s weekly workshop community ‘Freedom to Make’, the exhibition is the culmination of six workshops with local women centred on storytelling, collage, and textile-making
Each participant was invited to bring in a personal object from home - something small but meaningful that carried memory, connection, or cultural significance. These intimate objects sparked conversations about migration, motherhood, tradition, resilience, and the emotional resonance of “home.”
Creating expressive collages as a response to these conversations, each piece was digitally printed onto fabric and hand-embroidered, layering material and memory through the slow, intentional act of stitching.
As a response to this creative process, Hafza also created a final body of work. She photographed each participant’s object, listened closely to their stories, and produced a series of artworks that weave together their narratives, symbols, and shared experiences. These works reflect not only the individual journeys of the women involved but also a wider conversation about belonging, healing, and the power of art to hold space for community voices.
At the heart of this project is Hafza’s personal mission as an artist:
To use creativity as a tool for social connection, empowerment and care. Seated at the intersections of community, culture and wellbeing, drawing from heritage and the value of everyday creativity. Creating inclusive spaces for underrepresented voices, especially women, to share, make, and be seen through their own lens.
Threads of Home is both personal and collective. It speaks to the quiet power of objects, stories and stitches to carry memory across generations and to the transformative role of art in making us feel at home with ourselves and one another.
Please note that these events are being filmed and photographed for internal and external purposes.
