About this event
Join us on Thursday 25th September to explore the intersection of textiles and activism, sharing personal stories of struggles for freedom and justice while creating a collaborative textile art piece. This is a practical workshop exploring democracy, activism and craft, led by Hongkongers’ cultural group Re-Water
We will showcase a piece of fabric symbolising the dedication of Hong Kong's social workers, who fought for justice with love and peace in unity during a three-day strike in December 2019, involving 34 organizations. This strike aimed to urge the government to address police violence and uphold the "Five Demands." After sharing this inspiring story, we invite you to lend your voice. Share your own experiences of struggle for freedom or justice, and together, we'll create a collaborative textile piece embodying our commitment to social change.
This workshop is part of The Common Threads Festival, an international weaving project bringing cultures, ideas and people together and taking place from the 24th -27th September on the Moor in Sheffield.
Common Threads has grown from a collaboration between The Bare Project, Higsad Alool Weavers and textile groups across Sheffield.
There will be a photographer present at this event, and the images may be used by The Bare Project for marketing and evaluation purposes. If you do not wish for your photograph to be taken for any reason then please speak with one of the team at the start of the event.
