sWho We Are

Enscite is a three-year collaboration between the University of Derby and Aston University to support businesses in the planes, trains and automobile sectors to improve their productivity to facilitate growth and competitive advantage. It is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

3DCE is a structured holistic approach, using specially developed toolkits to understanding technology (TRL), manufacturing (MRL) and supply chain readiness (SCRL). TRL, MRL and SCRL are tools to help your business to categorise a product or a product subcategory in terms of its level of readiness for market. 3DCE is designed to support your manufacturing / engineering business to strengthen resilience through a structured approach. Businesses who concurrently consider the trade-offs between TRL/MRL/SCRL as an integral part of the new product development process have the potential to launch their products faster, more reliably and at lower total costs than their competitors.

This workshop will give you an opportunity to meet the experts in each of these areas: TRL, MRL and SCRL. The SCRL tool has been developed (funded by Innovate UK) by Aston University and allows businesses to assess the maturity of their supply chain. Giving you an introduction to 3DCE and how it could help your business to map, assess and improve:

  • understanding of your technology and manufacturing capabilities
  • understanding of your supply chain in terms of geography/location and relationships with suppliers/customers
  • business wide operations
  • risk management strategies

Following the workshop, you will have the opportunity for one to one business support with our experts to assess your businesses current positions within TRL, MRL and / or SCRL. You will receive:

Meet Our Experts:

Aristides Matopoulos – Reader (Associate Professor) in Supply Chain Design & Logistics Systems. With extensive experience in industrial research collaborators including working with Jaguar Land Rover, Williams Advanced Engineering, Saietta Group, MCT Reman, Microcab, Goodfloo, Marks & Spencer, AB Vassilopoulos, and many small and medium size companies.

Dr Yuchun Xu – Senior Lecturer in Manufacturing. With an extensive background in smart manufacturing, mechatronics, and life cycle engineering. His research work is closely linked with industry, including Rolls-Royce, Airbus, QinetiQ, and Network Rail

Dr Brian Price – Lecturer, School of Engineering Systems & Management. With over 25 years experience in industry within a variety of senior engineering leadership positions, including responsibilities for engineering development, project execution and business leadership, with global consultant and manufacturing companies; Ricardo Consulting Engineers, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Cosworth Engineering and Lotus Engineering.

The Workshop:

  • Manufacturing Readiness Level,
  • Technology Readiness Level
  • Supply Chain Readiness Level
  • The approach for 3-Dimensional Concurrent Engineering (3DCE) and principles.

Eligibility Criteria

This workshop is for companies with:

Under 250 employees

Turnover not exceeding €50 million

Trading office located in the D2N2 LEP area

A business that is part of the aerospace, automotive and rail supply chain
