About this event
This walk takes us to the popular Three Shires Head falls, which is very busy at the weekends so a Monday is the perfect time to visit. As well as the waterfalls, we will be passing Danebower Quarry and Colliery Engine!
A 9km loop with around 450ft of elevation on mixed terrain but mostly footpaths and trails with some very gradual hills to climb. This walk is classed as moderate and is suitable for most. If you're new to hiking, this would be the perfect walk to get you started!
So whether you're looking to meet other outdoorsy women in the community, get ideas for routes for your own walks or runs, or simply want to inject a good dose of fresh air and views into your week, this walk is for you!
Being a mum myself and reducing my hours to part time to look after my children, I felt at a loss when the second one started school. What started as a love of walking has now turned into a new career in the outdoors and I'm passionate about supporting other women to get outside and feel the benefits. Group hikes are a great way to start building confidence whilst enjoying the company of other like-minded women.
Who will be your guide?
I’m Emily, founder of Peak Outdoor Coaching, and I’m a Mountain Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!

We'll be meeting at some roadside parking along the A54, Macclesfield, SK11 OBQ Google Maps which is free to park. I am always happy to car share from Glossop so do let me know if you're based in the area or would like to jump in at Buxton (nearest train station).
We will meet at 9.50am to leave at 10am.
Public transport: see Peak District Bus Timetable.
Drop me a message if you would like to be added to the car share group chat.
What to bring:
- Hiking boots or shoes with good grip and ankle support
- Snacks/lunch to sustain you for around 4 hours
- Rucksack
- Water (at least 1L)
- Waterproofs
- Warm layers
- Hat and gloves
- Sun hat and sun cream
- Headtorch
- A small first aid kit with any personal medications
- Walking poles, sit mat, hot drink (optional extras)
Terrain:
Mostly trails and footpaths. Always be prepared for mud this time of year!
Toilets:
There are no toilets at the car park or along the way on the walk so we may have to embrace the good old ‘wild wees’ whilst we’re out! There are plenty of little hidden spots for us to squat in private!
Safety:
The whole point of our walks is that they are enjoyable and memorable experiences for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let us know your concerns. Please inform us of any medical conditions prior to the walk. Every participant MUST complete this Medical & Disclaimer Form a minimum of 24 hours before the event begins.
Our leaders are qualified Hill and Moorland and Mountain Leaders and level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so they will be on hand in case of an emergency.
Dogs:
Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short lead when we walk through farm land.
Refund Policy*:
Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so. No swaps to other events.
And FINALLY:
This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
